Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger – Episode 15: “A Privateer Appears” Review

June 2nd, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries, Gokaiger Reviews

This week on Gokaiger, a new rival threatens the team, with powers that they have never seen before, but may prove useful in finding the greatest treasure in the universe!

Hakase runs down the stairs with the paper, showing the team that the bounty on their heads is now z12,505,000. While Hakase is worried, the others are excited that they are worth that much, and may soon pass another group called the “Red Pirate Gang.” Upon mentioning their name, Marvelous stops what he’s doing. Ahim mentions that Marvelous used to belong to the Red Pirate Gang. Marvelous, however, changes the subject, and asks Navi to look for treasure once again. Navi tells them that danger is approaching, not the result they were expecting, but Marvelous seems excited by it. In space, a ship flies by, and we see a pirate and his servant, a red ape. Oiles Gil notices it, and Barizorg tells him that it’s another pirate, but this one only attacks Zangyack’s enemies. Damaras has a plan however, and keeps to himself.

Power Rangers: Samurai – Episode 15: “The Tengen Gate”

May 31st, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries, Samurai Reviews

Hello everyone, and welcome to the new day for Ranger Reviews! Saturday’s Episode was “The Tengen Gate,” and there’s a LOT to talk abuout, so lets begin!

Xandred has locked himself away in his cabin as he gains more power. Octaroo says that what he and Dayu have to do now is protect him from other Nighlocks that might want to steal the throne in Xandred’s absence. As that’s going on, Deker is walking alone, and he too notices that Xandred is gaining energy. Because he’s locked away, however, the Moogers will not have any order, so they will attack without reason. On the plus side for Deker, this means that without Xandred’s interference, he can duel Jayden and not be bothered. As he walks off, giant Moogers come out, attacking the city. The Rangers spring into action, running to fight them. On the way, Emily notices the Sanzu River seeping through a crack. They summon their Zords to fight the Moogers, and Antonio summons and combines both of his Zords, fighting the monsters in Claw Battlezord North mode. The others use the Battlewing Megazord to take out some of the Moogers, and they both finish with their ending attacks. My only issue with this is that there wasn’t any build up or line about combining the Octozord and the Clawzord. It doesn’t leave any plotholes, but it still comes out of nowhere on a first watch.

Power Rangers: Samurai – Episode 14: “Team Spirit” Review

May 26th, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries, Samurai Reviews

Welcome back to my reviews of Power Rangers Samurai! In this change in my schedule, these reviews will be moving to Tuesdays, so be sure to come by next Tuesday (when the cartoons will be back, as well!)

We open on Emily walking around the empty house, everyone is seemingly gone, but we find that they are all hiding in one room trying to plan a surprise party for Emily’s birthday. Mike is happy that they’re doing something special for her, even though she isn’t with her sister this year. A knock comes on the door, and Jayden sneaks in, asking amout the cake. Mia suggests baking a cake, but the others tell her that Antonio had “already ordered one.” Everyone is doing really well in their parts, but unfortunately that’s about to change.

One Year of Chromacorps!

May 24th, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries

Next week will mark one year since the start of this comic. It’s been really fun, and now it’s time to kick it into it’s second stage! There will be a few changes going on with the scheduling:

  • Chromacorps will be updating, starting on Monday, on a 3 day a week schedule – Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
  • Power Rangers: Samurai Reviews will be running on the Tuesday after the episode.
  • Gokaiger Reviews will be running on the Thursday after the episode.

This will hopefully be a schedule I can work with. With the recent change of Samurai to Saturdays, I felt like I was constantly playing catch up. I’m hoping this move will be able to help make it more obvious when the reviews will be going up, and alleviate some stress on me. Plus, you’ll get something every weekday here at Chromacorps! So be sure to come back next week when Year Two of Chromacorps begins! Friday will be the beginning of Episode 5, and I can’t wait for you to read what I’ve got in store! Thanks for reading!

SpiderForest Creator of the Week #3

May 18th, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries

Hey everyone! Once again it’s time to highlight a creator from the SpiderForest group of comic creators. This week, it’s Tiffany Munro and her comic Between Places. Between Places is an epic story about a battle over the Dreamworld, with characters being able to use their abilities to do certain things within it. With Rease joining The Order, those who protect dreamers from being destroyed by the Vilanar family, they learn that her dreams are more real than others, and they can be very dangerous. What is different about Between Places is that it has a painterly style that you don’t get in most webcomics. The story is very epic, with many twists and turns, and can get very complex and deep. With it’s very long run, the art has also grown stronger. Between Places is also a PG-13 comic, and the creator does warn that language and violence pop up in her comic from time to time. There is no fan-service or nudity, however, and nothing is too graphic. You can also check out Tiffany’s DeviantArt gallery, where she puts some other work. See you next week!

Power Rangers: Samurai – Episode 12: “Room For One More” Review

May 11th, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries, Samurai Reviews

First of all, let me apologize for the lateness of this review. I’ve been very busy this past week, and I will also be busy next weekend. However, the reviews will be up, and we’ll get back on a normal schedule very soon! This is also why there’s no cartoon as of yet. There will be, but I want to get the review up so that everyone can read it! So, without further ado, let’s talk about today’s episode, “Room For One More.”

Thank you all!

Hello everyone!

I write this post the morning after Free Comic Book Day, and I was so happy with how it went! Pete and I handed out numerous flyers, and we got to talk to a handful of comics fans. Everyone was friendly, and excited to see the local artists out and promoting their work. I was also able to sell some of my work, which was nice for me! The best part was when a parent bought my Power Rangers sketch cards for his two young kids who have just gotten into Power Rangers: Samurai! Nice to see that kids are enjoying the series. Another comic fan came up and bought all three of my Chromacorps sketch cards, which was interesting. The ones that were left were the cards of Batman and Thor, which I thought would go first!

To those of you who picked up a flyer or are checking this out from talking to me:

First, thank you SO much for showing interest in my comic! I’m always grateful to those who come every week to check out my stuff. You are the reason I do it.
Second, a quick tour of the site:

  • Click here to skip right to the first comic! A lot has changed since then, but it’s not a lot to get through!
  • On the left, there’s a link to the first strip, and a drop down menu to get to a specific issue.
  • Over this blog, there’s the menu bar. The new readers page will tell you all about the story and the characters. The three buttons are for my RSS Feed, my Twitter, and my comic’s Facebook page! Be sure to follow my Twitter and Like my Facebook to get updates on the comic, news, and also some extra content! Then if you click that title, it will take you right to the homepage!
  • On the right side, you can find a couple ways to contact me: The first is a service called Plupper, which if I am online, you can click that “Send Live Feedback” image and directly chat with me! Pretty cool, right? The second is my recent Twitter posts. You can click on my name and follow me as well. The third is a donation button linking to my Paypal. If you’d like to donate, click there and run through the prompts!
  • Under that is my current list of Tokusatsu that I am watching. Clicking those links will take you to some information about the series. However, some pages may be in Japanese. Then you see a list of buttons. These are other comic creators that I am good friends with who also do family friendly comics (G – PG). Go check them out!
  • Below that, there are more links to Tokusatsu related pages! Check them out, too!

I hope everyone enjoys my comic, and I’ll have an appearance schedule up soon! See you around!

Remember everyone! Free comics! (Also, late reviews.)

May 7th, 2011 | by Trevor Kent

A quick update on a few things:

1. With Free Comic Book Day being today, I will not be able to watch Power Rangers: Samurai or Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger until later tonight. So the reviews might come Sunday or later. Remember, I have to do a comic as well for those reviews!

2. With Free Comic Book Day being today (woah, deja vu!), I’ll remind you of the place: 1176 Mount Hope, Rochester, NY. Go type that into your GPS and come join me and Pete Tarkulich for the festivities (and free comics!)

3: The 100th strip will be coming very soon, and the 1 year anniversary will be coming June 1st. I plan on adding an additional update day, probably Saturdays, after that. If you would like to send in fan art, a guest strip, I would love it! Send all submissions to taka (at) takacomics (dot) com. You can include the subject line “1 Year Anniversary Art” or something similar. I will feature them each week in the blog section! Thank you so much for reading. The response I’ve gotten to Chromacorps from the both the webcomic community and the tokusatsu fanbase has been nothing but great. Tell your friends about the comic. We’ve got big things happening not only in the next month, but just wait until you see what’s coming next year!

See ya!

SpiderForest Creator of the Week

May 3rd, 2011 | by Trevor Kent
Posted In: Blog Entries

Happy Tuesday everyone! Today starts a new segment that will last a couple months. As some of you may know, I belong to a group of creators called “SpiderForest.” They are not only a great place for webcomics, but also a host for them as well. Starting this week, we are highlighting different creators in the group, and this week is Denise “Darwin” Randall. Darwin is the creator of Gemutations, a series that has been in both novel and comic form. The comic is an R-rated comic however, so I will link you to some of her other work, along with her fiction site. Going to those sites, you won’t see anything R-rated, but the links from might contain something of that nature. The character designs she’s come up with are very different from those you would normally see in a story like this, and gives an interesting take on stories with genetically altered characters. If you’d like to check out more, head to the links provided and check out her stuff! As you can see, we have a wide variety of different comics over at SpiderForest, and I hope you go and check out all of our links! See you next week!
