Tomorrow’s comic (Friday, January 15th) will be late. Family has been shopping for a dishwasher, and since I was out to dinner with them, I was pulled around too. But I found a couple beers I want to try :)

The other reason is that I have to visit a friend, who is leaving for Japan tomorrow. However, the comic should be up by noon tomorrow. If it isn’t I apologize in advance.

1337

Hey look, guys! My site was 1337 yesterday.

Ok, that’s a bit harsh. But this con wasn’t what we expected. It was more of a toy show and collectors show, not a comic con. We started out on Thursday driving from Rochester to Shiro’s brother’s house. The car ride was so fun, and the constant reference to THIS COMIC became a running gag that would not quit. Also, my new name is apparently “Oh god, you’re a dude.” I don’t like my new name. After all the buttsex (which was replaced commonly with the funniest town name, Zelienople), we got to the convention on Friday after spending the night in Ohio with Shiro’s brother. We opened the booth up to…..no play from the audience. It was slow. Very slow. But hey, it was Friday, and we weren’t going to complain. Friday’s are usually slow. We did meet some awesome people, however. Behind us was a great caricaturist named ToonBrian, who was fun to chat with. On the side was a couple of guys selling movies and action figures, who were very nice. Then there were our friends, Karen Howard, Pete Tarkulich, and Alex Heberling, who all do great webcomics. At the end of Friday, we discussed the rest of the weekend over dinner and alcohol. I had my standard wine, but I thought I’d switch it up this time and order Merlot instead of Cabernet. Pete was not pleased. Anyways, we found out that the mall right next to us was where they filmed “Dawn of the Dead,” the Monroeville Mall. After hearing that they had an exhibit on the movies and zombie lore, we decided we had to hit it. We chose Saturday afternoon, as we were all tired on Friday night. Saturday came and went just like Friday, though I did meet a fellow Webcomics Planet Collective member, Barry Linck. Barry sat across from us and came over from time to time to talk about how the con wasn’t going so great. There were a few sales of Shiro’s prints, and no sales of my books. The other three had the same story, and we groaned about it all con. So after the convention ended for the day, Shiro, Ethan, Alex, Karen, and I ran off to the Mall! That was amazing! After we got back from fueling our Zombie fanaticism, we all met up again at the hotel to drink. There, things got a little “boisterous!” and we had a great drink and draw session. I didn’t drink that time, and Shiro doesn’t drink, but it was fun seeing everyone else buzzed. Sunday came, and the trend continued. However, I did sell one book to Karen’s sister. Thanks Laura! :)

On the way back, there was a whole bunch of buttsex and singing to nostalgic cartoon openings. I’ll do a more in depth review of the con when I’m less tired, but the bottom line was: It wasn’t our crowd. Sorry, Steel City. You guys are great, but it just didn’t work out for us.
